Artwork: Dancing Trees
As a painter of trees, I was initially drawn to the most striking of them: one growing at a dramatic angle, one whose roots wrapped themselves around a boulder, one an ancient composition of gnarls and boles.
Later, I came to appreciate that each tree, like each human being, has its own personality. I began to anthropomorphize, ascribing emotions to each tree. A certain group of trees might have a beckoning quality, another group might wind skyward in such a free manner as to suggest joy.
Now as I walk through the forest observing these phenomena, the myriad curves and angles of the trees seem like the frozen movements of a dance.
